3D PRINTED HOLLOW FORM OBJECT: THE HYBRID

Image
For this week's project, we had to use our hollow form generation concepts from last week and combine them with another person and their concepts. My partner for this project was Isabelle, and we worked well together.       Here are my concepts from last week: I was mostly intrigued by these tube-looking things that I made using the Sweep1 command, so that was the object I wanted to combine.  Here are Isabelles concepts: When we were brainstorming for our combined object, we decided we wanted to somehow use the funky tube shapes from my concepts, and the cylinder pieces and rectangle "slats" from Isabelles' first, second, and third concepts. In the end, we decided to combine those ideas and add a function to our object, so we decided to try and make our object a napkin holder! Here are some sketches from both of us when we were brainstorming ideas: And here's our final hybrid object!: I think we successfully combined the tube design from my concepts with s...

PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: FINAL REVISION

For this project, we had to re-create our prototypes from last week but this time incorporate comments from our critique and use the laser printer to cut our templates.       My main goal with this project was to make my piece bigger, use more realistic colours, and add way more detail.       Here is my original 3D prototype in rhino, and then how I unrolled it and prepared it for the laser printer.  Once I had all of my paper cut, (I forgot to take pictures), I started by gluing all the pieces together, and adding smaller details because I knew it would be harder to add them once the main shape of the kiln was made.    I made a small bowl to sit on the kiln shelves that I made since I wasn't able to make the peeps on my kiln actually removable, which is something that was mentioned last week in our critique.  For the "stripes" on the inside of the kiln, which are actually the coil elements in real kilns, I constructed the refl...
